The Role

UK Government Investments (UKGI) is offering the opportunity for a qualified, or part qualified management accountant to join its central Finance Team. Reporting to the Deputy CFO this role is central to smooth and effective running of the finance function whilst offering the opportunity to undertake discreet projects within the team and across UKGI. This role is offered on a permanent or secondment basis (if applying from across the Civil Service).

Key duties and responsibilities:

The Finance function is a small team within UKGI. In addition to managing UKGI’s budget and day-to-day financial operations, the team provides expertise across UKGI, including risk, compliance and procurement. We are looking for a detail-oriented financial accountant to join our team to prepare monthly financial information, support reporting to HM Treasury, maintain financial controls, manage routine finance operations and contribute to continuous improvement across finance systems and processes.

1. Responsible for the management UKGI’s month-end finance cycle, including processing of journals, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations and preparation of monthly management accounts.
2. Manage credit control and supplier payment activities to support working capital management
3. Responsibility for the Purchase to Pay process for UKGI including raising and receipting purchase orders as appropriate
4. Providing detailed financial analysis and accurate budgeting and forecasting to support decision-making by our Senior Management
5. Supporting the Deputy CFO to prepare UKGI’s Annual Report and Accounts and audit by the National Audit Office
6. Building and maintaining effective working relationships with HMT HR & Finance operational centre and act as the main point of contact for all UKGI Finance systems queries and ad hoc commissions
7. Support annual budget setting and longer-term financial planning.

This list is not exhaustive, and the post-holder may be required to carry out other tasks as and when required.

There is also potential for you to work on projects across the finance team and UKGI, to help you develop a wider skillset.

Person specification:

Essential criteria
• Qualified CCAB or Part-Qualified working towards Chartered status with experience of working in an Accounts/Finance Department
• You will have practical skills in one or more of: management accounting and cost analysis, planning and budgeting, cash flow management, and financial accounting
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy
• A proven ability to build relationships with colleagues across and beyond your
• A minimum of five GCSEs grade A-C, including English and Maths (9-4 on the new grading system)

Desirable criteria
• Knowledge of Accounting packages and purchase management software (Oracle experience desirable but not essential).
