About the Finance Team
We are looking for a Finance Assistant to join our close-knit, friendly and supportive Finance team on either a full or part time basis. You will be part of a team which gives you the chance to be involved in a broad range of tasks, from the day to day transactional posting to producing monthly management accounts as well as supporting the team through the annual audit process.
As a Finance Assistant you will:
• Play a key role in running the accounting and finance function of UKGI as part of our Finance and Procurement Team.
• Support the Assistant Finance Manager and Head of Finance across all aspects of accounting, including transactional posting, producing monthly management accounts and information, including bank reconciliations, VAT and month end accounting
• Work with our Commercial Lead to gain practical insights into procurement and commercial in government
• You will be part of the wider Government Finance Profession and will have the opportunity to broaden your experience in other aligned organisations within government.
Role and responsibilities include:
• Responsibility for the Purchase to Pay process for UKGI including raising and receipting purchase orders as appropriate.
• Responsibility for raising sales invoices for recovery of costs including secondments ensuring correct VAT treatment is being applied.
• Support on UKGI’s month-end finance cycle, including processing of journals, accruals and carrying out bank and other reconciliations as required.
• Support Assistant Finance Manager and Head of Finance to prepare UKGI’s Annual Report and Accounts and through the annual audit process, and responding to information requests from the external auditors.
• Providing responses to freedom of information requests, parliamentary questions and other general requests for financial information.
• Supporting UKGI’s commercial lead by monitoring key contracts, including expenditure, variations and expiry dates.
As described above, the successful applicant will get the chance to work on projects across UKGI, as well as the potential to extend this across government, in order to develop their wider skills.
About You
Essential criteria
• Experience of working in an Accounts/Finance Department.
• The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and a methodical approach to work using attention to detail.
• A minimum of five GCSEs grade A-C, including English and Maths (9-4 on the new grading system).
Desirable criteria
• Knowledge of Accounting packages and purchase management software (Oracle experience desirable but not essential).
